Our flagship workforce development program trains adults to become State certified Child Care Providers, with 144+ hours of instruction and ongoing support after graduation.
The Child Care Careers Training Program provides 144+ hours of training that certifies an individual as an assistant in the Federal Head Start Program, meets the Maryland State requirement for work in child care, and puts them on the path to licensure for Family Child Care.
We specialize in training adults to become State certified Child Care Providers. Once certified and employed, graduates are part of a career pathway that can lead to further educational opportunities as well as economic advantages.
We provide ongoing support to graduates of the Child Care Training Program as they enter jobs at child care centers and in schools, prepare for in-home child care licensing, and continue their education.
The program is offered for English-speaking and Spanish-speaking students in alternating semesters. Contact the JCC for exact dates for each semester and the language of instruction.
This course includes instruction in child development theory and practices, emphasizing the care and training of children from 0 to 5 years. Some of the topics included are: theories of education, children with special needs, discipline techniques, child abuse, diversity and multiculturalism, and parent-teacher communications.
This course provides the basic information and hands-on learning on the administration of medicine for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and children 6 to 12 years old. We also focus on the State of Maryland policies governing Medication Administration in child care.
The course focuses on the growth and development of infants and toddlers and on the health, safety, nutrition, and discipline techniques that teachers can apply. The course focuses on how to foster and support the child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
This course is designed as an introduction to the basic concepts of developing strong communication skills when working in the field of child care. Topics include speaking, writing, interpersonal communication strategies, and critical techniques, with a focus on communication with parents and co-workers, and communication issues within a typical child care day.
Students receive instruction in Adult and Pediatric CPR following the American Heart Association guidelines. First Aid instruction focuses on learning to identify and respond to emergency situations, including burns, heat and cold exposure, wounds, broken bones, and acute illnesses.
A monthly community meal where neighbors can gather for free hot food, fellowship, and connection. Everyone is welcome.
Helping reduce food waste by redistributing quality surplus meals to neighbors who need them.
An academic enrichment program focused on homework support, literacy, STEM exploration, mentoring, and helping students build confidence beyond the classroom.
